Great Websites to Travel on a Budget

While our hearts may desire the feeling of hot air hitting our faces when we step off a plane, our bank accounts often cower in fear at the thought of it. Really, girl? You're gonna spend more money on travelling?

But exploring our beautiful world doesn't have to cost an arm, a leg and a kidney. It really can be affordable if you know a) what you want and b) where to search for it.

Here is where it helps to be booking-savvy. You've just got to be smart enough to know where to look for cheap destinations and budget deals.

So, with that being said, here are websites I recommend if you want to get travelling on a budget.

1. SKYSCANNER

If you've been booking flights willy-nilly without checking skyscanner.net - STOP. If you've got a destination and rough dates in mind, skyscanner.net will compare all available deals for you. Not only do they show you the cheapest airlines to travel with, but they also show you the fastest flights, if there are any stopovers, or even similar dates where travelling may be cheaper. It's an A+ website to make sure you fly with the cheapest, most suitable airline for you. Also, if you're not particularly fussed about your destination and just want cheap flights, you can search 'everywhere' and it shows you the cheapest flights available out of your chosen airport!

2. AIRBNB

This next one, I'm sure, needs no introduction. But I'm going to give it a little one. Airbnb is a site that allows you to rent rooms/flats/villas/even houses from locals or homeowners in the area for a short period of time. All of the places and owners are approved by Airbnb and you're booking through them, so the site is always there to fall back on if need be. Airbnbs are perfect if you want a bit of privacy on your stay, and they're often miles cheaper than hotels in the area. I highly recommend considering at least a little browse on the site next time you're looking for somewhere to stay. I'm sure they have places available in any location you can think of!

3. TRIP ADVISOR

Another one that needs no introduction. Trip Advisor is my go-to for honest reviews and photos of any destination I have in mind. I find it especially helpful when researching restaurants or hotels, as they offer a 'search within reviews' function which allows me to get a taste of what they offer to vegetarians (no pun intended). Not only that, but they show you the cheapest websites to book hotels through and have a bunch of filters to help you find the best place for your stay.

4. ROME2RIO

Now this one is a new one to me, and I stumbled across it by accident. Rome2rio.com is not just a website, but also an app that is essential for when you're abroad. It shows you the cheapest and quickest ways to get around your destination: from buses and trains, to planes and taxis. They also suggest different hotels, car rental services and activities in that area that might be useful to you too. I can already tell this one is going to not only save the headache of figuring out foreign transport, but a buck-load of money, too.

There we go. There are a handful of websites I recommend if you're looking to get travelling on a budget. What sites do you always rely on to travel? Do you have anywhere booked, or are you still dreaming of an exotic destination in the future?
